Conor lands the bronze in Abbottstow­n

ARDEE and District AC athletes had a busy week as they competed in competitio­ns at a very high level representi­ng both their club and school, representi­ng Ardee Community School.

On Tuesday Conor McMahon and Abbie Sheridan travelled to the newly opened National sports arena in Abbottstow­n for the Leinster indoor combined events championsh­ip.

Here athletes compete over 5 track and field discipline­s to pick up points.

The points are then tallied to find the winners.

Conor competed in the senior boys events. Running 9.68secs in the hurdles, throwing 8.01m with the heavier 6kg shot, jumped 6.05m in the long jump. Running 24.8secs in the 200m and 2.33 in the 800m saw him rewarded with a bronze medal for 3rd place and earn his place at the National finals.

Abbie competed in the intermedia­te girls events. Running 9.61sec in the hurdles and throwing 5.49m in the shot. Abbie then jumped 4.33m in the long jump and cleared 1.40m in the high jump.

Finishing her day with 2.39 in the 800m placed her a creditable 7th place.

On Thursday the action moved outdoors to the Phoenix park for the schools cross country. Up first was Samantha McCarron in the 1st years girls race.

Never losing her pace throughout the race Samantha took her spot on the podium for finishing 3rd.

Not being out done by her sister Rebecca McCarron also paced her race well to take the top spot when she finished 1st.

Both girls contribute­d to the Ardee Community Schools 1st and 2nd year teams take home gold.

Abbie Sheridan was also in action in the older girls senior race where she finished 3rd.

On Saturday the club singlets were back on for the Leinster even age cross country championsh­ips in Navan adventure centre.

A perfect cross country course on a somewhat prefect race day began with a non championsh­ip u10 1000m.

Jessica McCarron and Caoimhe Carolan raced in the girls race, while Dylan McCarron ran the boys equivalent.

U12 boy Jack McCarron returned home with a silver medal as the 6th boy in for Louth helped them secure the teams county medal for the 2nd county team home.

The u14 girls Rebecca McCarron and Orlaith Carolan ram well over the gruelling 3000m course.

A busy week saw Abbie Sheridan compete again on Saturday when she finished 16th in the u16 girls 4000m.

Ardee and district a.c. are proud of all the athletes who competed for both the club and their schools with great ability and of their personal achievemen­ts at such a high level of the sport.
