Time for action to tackle key issues in Julianstown
MEMBERS of the Julianstown community met with Fergus O’Dowd TD recently to discuss certain concerns to the community in Julianstown and the wider East Meath area.
The reps of the JDCA outlined the long standing concerns of the community which they say have not been acted upon by the County Council particularly the following:
Traffic issues – the volume of vehicles, noise pollution, risk to pedestrians etc.
The urgent need for calming.
The need for a bypass. The Old Mill eyesore.
‘ The JDCA and many other traffic residents of East Meath are frustrated and annoyed by the refusal of the officials of MCC to engage even at the most basic level with the JDCA or with individual residents,’ they stated.
‘MCC officials rarely respond to correspondence whether by email or letter nor do they act on issues of concern to the community. Officials treat East Meath residents as somehow being semi-detached from the rest of the county. This is despite the fact that the population of East Meath is now greater than that of Navan.’
Mr. O’Dowd undertook to arrange a meeting with Council officials to discuss matters of concern to the JDCA and residents.
Subsequent to the meeting with Mr. O’Dowd, the chairman of the group received a phone call from Nicholas Whyatt of MCC. He offered to engage with them on matters to do with traffic in the village.
‘We are hopeful that this meeting can happen within the next week. However, arising from FOI requests to the Council about the matter we are concerned to have been told that MCC has no existing plan for traffic management in Julianstown,’ they added.
