New civic building for beach

-

THE competition has begun for a civic building at the entrance to Bettystown beach.

FINE Gael Councillor, Sharon Tolan (pictured) welcomed the publication of the architectural competition and said Meath County Council recently acquired the derelict buildings at the entrance to the sandy beach that recently held the massively successful European Sandyachting Championships 2017.

“I am very excited that we are finally in a position to progress this project. I’m sure people were doubting if this was ever going to happen, and if indeed, €2.3 million of their development levies had actually been ring fenced at all for the provision of infrastructure.

‘It is my hope that this building with be something locals can be proud of and also get the maximum benefit from. The Architectural Competition will include the entire entrance, including the roadway and footpath, which needs significant improvements.

‘At this month’s Municipal District Meeting, we were informed that the council would hope to have the Design Team in place by mid January, and I will be pushing to ensure this deadline is met, so that we don’t suffer any more delays.”
