Great images of Drogheda’s military past

-

AN exhibition of photographs depicting the military in Drogheda in the years 1916 -1923 has opened in the local library in Stockwell Street Drogheda (pictured).

The exhibition of photographs gives a rare insight into the British army in Millmount and the subsequent takeover of Millmount by the local Irish Republican Army. Following the signing of the Irish Treaty in Dec 1921 the Irish Free State army arrived on the streets of Drogheda. Several photographs of the Free State Army on streets of Drogheda and the subsequent shelling of Millmount form part of the exhibition.

The exhibition, by Des Clinton, will run for 5 weeks and can be viewed during the library opening hours Tuesday and Thursday 10am -8pm and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10am to 5pm. Entry is free.
