End of an era as Drumcar school closes its doors

-

With the recent retirement of Mrs. Elizabeth Bell, Tullydonnell, Togher, from teaching in Drumcar Church of Ireland National school, an era has ended for the little village a few miles beyond Dunleer. The school is now closed, and the eight or ten pupils from the area travel to Ardee.

A member of the I.N.T.O. since its inception, Mrs. Bell, a very talented and kind hearted lady, taught in Drumcar for forty years, and, in all, had completed half a century all but three months in the profession, for prior to coming to Co. Louth, she held appointments in Dublin and Cork.

On behalf of parishioners and pupils four years old Ivor Mc-Dowell, Dunany, made a presentation to Mrs. Bell.

Among those present at the ceremony was Rev. Canon R. B. Blackwell-Smyth, Rector, Drumcar, who paid well deserved tribute to Mrs. Bell on her long1 and distinguished record of service.
