Mornington MEATH CO COUNCIL

It’s good to see that some members of the Meath County Council are quality air monitoring in the east Meath region as a “matter of urgency”.

Councillor Sharon Keogan brought the subject up and she stressed that given the high density industries that are in the East Meath region that’s it’s incumbent on the E.P.A to install four high quality monitors, east, west, north and south of Duleek.

Councillor Tom Kelly was of a like mind. He felt that there should be more done to ensure a greater coverage of quality monitors which in turn would give a cleaner environment. He also mentioned that effective monitoring is being neglected. He based this on the fact that the monitors that were in situ for Drogheda South were dispensed with in 2007 and Drogheda North met the same fate in 2009. Council officials said that they would pass on the comment to the environmental dept.

The environmental protection agency stated that this gives a geographical spread. The dogs in the street know that prevailing winds are westerly and south westerly. What good is one monitor in Navan when the prevailing winds of Ireland are such.

There are thousands of houses that are east of Duleek, and to say that they will not have any protection has over stepped the mark
