THE DIARY

I’M interested to see what will happen with the ongoing pipelaying scheme in the vicinity of Laurence’s Gate.

The Chord Road has looked pretty desolate at times in recent weeks - with diggers on site - laying pipes in various sections.

The latest stretch is right up to the end of the road at Sarsfields.

I walked the stretch last week and it was strangely quiet with no cars parked there or flashing through.

I had a look over the protective barriers around it and one wonders what treasures can be found along that road.

Part of the old cobbled road was spotted as well as plenty of red brick - be that rubble from houses or old tunnels.

There are reports of a tunnel running from the rear of the former Mimi Foods on the street right down to Laurence’s Gate. I wonder was it found?

Of course, if you are a local around the Chord you’ll have spotted the car seemingly abandoned at the bottom of Oulster Lane.

The VW Golf has been in the same spot since October 22. This abandoned car has been reported by the public many times over the last two weeks to the County Council operations, by phone and e-mail and also the gardai.

It’s blocking a pathway and when the street reopens it will be a nightmate - unless of course the gardai or the council get involved.

Concerning the pipework, I wonder are there plans to lay a pipe under the roadway under the gate.

The vibrations - if the work so far is anything to judge by - are pretty severe. After stopping the trucks from hitting it, it would be a shame to see the gate impacted in any way.

?? ?? Above, the markings under Laurence’s Gate in respect of the pipe works and right, the abandoned car on Oulster Lane. When will it be shifted, residents ask.
