Break-ins investigated
GARDAÍ in Drogheda are investigating a number of burglaries which occurred in the local area over the past week.
A property in Hillview was broken into last Friday night.
A shed at the rear of the property was broken broken into and a holdall bag of tools were taken.
These included a number of Stanley tools such as chisels, hammers and screwdrivers.
The bag did not include and power tools.
A house on the Dublin Road was broken into on Saturday, November 4th sometime between 6pm and midnight.
A purse containing a small quantity of cash and some documents including a driving licence was taken. The thieves gained entry by forcing a side window on the property.
Meanwhile, Gardaí are also investigating a number of incidents of vandalism which took place on Halloween night, Tuesday October 31st.
In Dunleer, the quick actions of gardaí prevented substantial destruction in the local playground.
At around 9.45pm gardaí noticed smoke and flames coming from the playground.
As they approached the scene a group of youths ran off and the members discovered the teens had pulled a mattress into the centre of the area and set it alight.
The gardaí managed to drag the burning matress out of the playground and extinguish the fire quickly, saving the soft floor area in the play area as a result.
Also on Halloween night, a car was damaged in the Limetree area of Termonfeckin.
A wingmirror of the car was kicked off sometime between 3am and 10am.
Again on the 31st, a number of residents in Mellifont Park were left angered after discovering their cars had been keyed by an individual.
The incident happened between 6pm and 7pm on the night and gardaí said five cars in the estate suffered scraps to their sides with some kind of metal object used in the attack.
‘ This was Halloween event when a lot of parents would have been out and about. It would have been a busy time in an estate like Mellifont Park and we would like to hear from anyone who might have noticed this incident happening or who may have any information on it,’ said a spokesperson for the gardaí.
Finally, a car was set alight in The Twenties area of Drogheda during the early hours of Saturday, November 4th.
The incident happened at around 2.20am when the rear of the vehcile, a 131 Silver Toyota Yaris, was discovered on fire.
Drogheda Fire Brigade were in attendance and extinguished the blaze before the car was removed by Drogheda Gardaí for technical examination.
