Fears of Catnapper as more than 190 cats gone missing
CONCERNS have been raised across the north east area after almost 190 cats have gone missing across the country so far this year.
Fears have been expressed that the disappearances could be down to a Catnapper at large in the area and a local shop based in Newry has been tracking the disappearances.
Pet Connection is urging the public to protect their pets and be on their guard as their could be something sinister involved in the large number of disappearances.
Emma O’Hare from Pet
Connection said she and her colleagues have been gathering information from concerned owners whose beloved cats have disappeared from their homes, and placing this information on a map so the extent of the issue is visible.
‘AT the beginning of September 2017, we began to notice an increase in the amount of cats going missing in our local area, Newry,’ said Emma.
‘In an attempt to discover why these cats were disappearing from their homes, we have appealed for owners of other cats who have gone missing to get in touch with us.
‘ The results have been distressing. We have had cats reported throughout
Ireland, with a total of 189 cats reported missing in 2017, as of the 30th October 2017. We expect this number to rise.’
THE shop is asking anyone who has had a cat going missing in Ireland to contact them through their web form by clicking the ‘Report a Missing Cat’ link on their website.
‘We are working to discover patterns in these disappearances, and hopefully prevent future cats from going missing,’ said Emma.
‘Unfortunately, we believe the cats may be being taken for malicious purposes.’
The shop has also posted a map showing the locations of missing cats that have been reported to them.
Emma said they are encouraging anyone whose family cat has gone missing recently to report the incident to the gardaí.
