MATHS and Geography teacher Marita Bayly will be aiming to turn from teacher to queen when she heads to the Bridge House in Tullamore next weekend.

Termonfeckin woman Marita is the local entry in this year’s WR Shaw Queen of the Land competition, taking place from the 10th-12th November.

31 queens from across Ireland and the UK will come together for a range of activities across the weekend. On Friday the queens arrive at 11am and will go on a tour around Tullamore.

That evening the official opening ceremony will take place. On Saturday the Queens will be up early for primate interviews with the judges followed by on stage interviewers on the Saturday night. On Saturday during the day the Queens will meet their escorts who will be looking after the queens until the end of the festival.

On Sunday the queens will head to the bowling alley for a game of bowling followed by Mass in the local church. On Sunday evening the Gala Banquet will take place and the announced of the WR Shaw Queen of the Land 2017 will be announced atmidnight.

Marita is excited to be representing Louth Macra, having been one of the members who re-established Termonfeckin Macra in 2012.

Marita has taken on many club and county roles such as club Chairperson, secretary for both club and county, NCR and Development officer for the county and currently the club PRO.

She has won two gold leadership awards for her contribution and dedication to these roles and has represented Macra as a delegate for the Irish team at the Rural Youth European Rally in Wales in 2014. Also in 2013 Marita reached the final 12 in the county for Best new member.

She is an all rounder, a top public speaker, part of the winning set dancing team in 2016, runner up in Disco dancing in 2017 and even part of the committee who organised Louth Macra’s New Years Eve Ball and also Termonfeckin Macra reunion dinner dance.

‘Macra has been a huge part of my life since I joined in 2012, I have put my all into whatever I have done and I surely have gained from it. Macra has given me something to do when I finished college and I have made so many friends from across the country. I would advise any young person aged between 17-35 years to get involved in your local club. Also Macra is about what you put yourself forward for, the more you do the more you will get out of it,’ she stated.
