Honouring comic trio

-

DROGHEDA pantomime legends Joe ‘ Tec’ Caffrey, Jimmy Fagan and Joe Cluskey are to be remembered and honoured by a tribute to the massive impact they had on entertainment in the town and further afield.

‘Fagan, Cluskey and Caffrey were legends!’ said Independent Cllr Frank Godfrey. ‘ They kept the town in stitches and deserve to be honoured at this stage. They were the Cream of Comedy in the region.’

Cllr Godfrey has called a meeting to discuss the nature of the tribute, eg a monument, statue or suchlike, and the location, as all three hailed from Yellowbatter, and to set up a committee.

The meeting will take place in Garveys, Scarlet Street, Drogheda, on Tuesday 7 November at 7pm. All welcome, especially those who were involved in the pantomime over the years.

‘I hope that people who knew Fagan, Cluskey and Caffrey will attend, and that there will be representatives from each family there too,’ said Cllr Godfrey. ‘ The purpose of this meeting is to pay tribute to these legendary comedians who made us all laugh so much over the decades, and touched so many people’s lives.’

‘ They were three of the best entertainers the town ever produced, and were stars of the stage and panto. It’s time that the town acknowledges them and they got some proper recognition. They were the best comedians in the country - you will never see their likes again! In fact, there was such huge talent in Yellowbatter that we should establish a local Hall of Fame!’
