Title hopefuls draw comfort after stoppage-time equaliser

-

ALBION Rovers remain unbeaten since Pat Mohan took charge but can count themselves lucky to get a point from last Thursday night’s home game against fellow promotion contenders Woodview.

The hosts started brightest, with Evan Corlett having a couple of one-on-ones with the Woodview keeper, but each time the netminder Dano Mulligan came out on top.

Albion eventually the lead on 20 minutes when Jack Reynolds whipped in a cross from the left wing to find young Sam Kelly who volleyed to the roof of the net.

However, that goal was cancelled out 10 minutes later by Kyle Carroll and Woodview’s main man struck again on the 35-minute mark to leave Albion trailing 2-1.

Mohan’s team worked hard to find an equaliser and right on the stroke of half-time the got it. Sam

Kelly this time turned provider as he beat the left-back to cross a ball from the endline towards Corlett who beat the Woodview keeper with an overhead kick from six yards out.

Corlett was no doubt hugely relieved, given the earlier opportunities that he failed to take, but the second half was a much different affair as Woodview dominated from the off.

It took Albion 25 minutes and three substitutions before they got to grips with what Woodview were throwing at them, but by that time the home side were trailing 3-2 to the Dundalk outfit, with Dean Brown netting after Jason Myles’ header came back off the crossbar.

In the final 20 minutes Albion threw everything but the kitchen sink at theier opponents and they finally hauled themselves level in added time when man of the match Reynolds reacted quickest in the six-yard box after Mulligan spilt a Kevin Kelly corner.

Apart from Reynolds, Steo Martin and Sam Kelly shone brightest for the home side.

Meanwhile, Albion have added more experience to their management team by bringing in former Drogheda United player Bernard McEvoy who was most recently involved with now-folded Black Bull.
