Albion firing on all cylinders as they break duck

-

ALBION Rovers’ Under-15 boys came from behind to record their first victory of the season - with their goals coming from six different players.

The Monasterboice outfit had started brightly, but having spurned chances Blayney capitalised by taking the lead from a counter-attack.

Albion fought their way back into the game and a Cillian Smith free kick found the bottom corner to ensure the sides went in level at the break.

The game was finely poised at this stage, but with the aid of the breeze Albion pushed on immediately after the restart and took the lead when Shaun Smith and Conor Boyle combined well to set

up Keith Lynch.

Albion soon extended their advantage when a neat flick from Lynch sent Smith through on the left and he finished powerfully past the keeper.

Blayney fought hard to get back in the game and bossed things in the possession stakes, but they couldn’t force any clearcut chances against the resolute Albion defence.

Good build-up play from Oisin McCann and Smith eventually led to the ball ricocheting to Boyle who took a touch before finding the net to make things more comfortable for the home team - 4-1.

Albion added two more to their tally late in the game. First, Conor Reaburn closed down a goalkeeper’s clearance and finished to an empty net, and then came the goal of the game came when Smith charged down the left, kept the ball in play on the endline and squared for Jason Lennon to finish first-time from the edge of the box.

Every player contributed to a fine team effort, and having gone close over the previous few games the Albion lads will be delighted to have got a win.
