Boyne AC sparkle in relays

BOYNE AC’s youngsters revelled in the glorious sunshine by medalling in most events as the final juvenile meeting on the Louth cross-country calendar took place on Sunday.

The Drogheda & District grounds on the outskirts of the town was the venue and Boyne’s Under-10 Girls got things off to a flying start as they scooped gold, thanks to the combined efforts of the talented Sholah Lawrence, Kate Culhane, Chloe Cooney and Ally Fennell.

The boys were determined not be outdone by the girls and they too raced home to victory, with some some great running from brothers Lorcan and Tadgh Forde Dunne, together with Alex Robertson and Cormac McEvoy. The second team in the U-10 Boys event were just pipped at the post for a medal, but there were great runs nonetheles­s from Rhys Clarke, Daniel Hanley, Luca McLoughlin and Calum Byrne.

The Girls Under-12 team of Emer Cooney, Allie and Isabella Garcia and Ella McLoughlin faced stiff competitio­n and finished in fifth place overall, while in the boys event in that age group it was a one-two for Boyne as Paddy Price, Caelan Quinn, Shea O’Donnell and Sean Cummins took gold, followed closely by Amitesh Bala, Aaron Fennell, Killian Ekhator and Emmet McEvoy in silver position.

The U-14 Girls also took home gold on the day, with some strong performanc­es from Anna Faulkner, Caer NiGhibne, Lily Cummins and Eabha Cosgrove, while in the boys race it was bronze for Adam Byrne, Neil Culhane, Danny Nugent and Cathal Monaghan.

The U-16 Girls event saw hurdler Tara Meier take on the 500m distance, joined by clubmates Lily O’Connor, Aoife O’Brien and Subomi, and the quartet took home the gold medal, while in the boys equivalent Calum Sheedy, Killian MCLoughlin, Euan Canniffe and Christian Quinn won bronze.

The Senior Ladies had 6k to run, and on a tough course in windy conditions Sally Clarke held her own, running a super race to finish seventh overall, while in the Men’s race Joe Carroll ran well over the 10k distance.
