Senior B team lead way for Greenhills

-

THREE Our Lady’s College Greenhills teams played host to St Mary’s Killester and the away team returned home happier with two wins under their belt.

The day kicked off with Our Lady’s Junior C team against St Mary’s A in a Division 2 fixture.

The first quarter was well contested, with newcomer Ciara Coombes opening her account as Our Lady’s kept in touch, trailing 8-4 at the first break.

The home side outscored the visitors 4-2 in the second quarter, with Niamh Gumba and Gemma O’Toole also grabbing their first baskets, but Killester’s full court press tactic resulted in Our Lady’s failing to score in the second half as the visitors ran out 23-8 winners.

The Under-19 Senior B Division 2 team was next onto the court and after a slow start they trailed 6-3 at the end of quarter one, with Niamh Killeen the sole scorer. Things got worse in quarter two as Our Lady’s failed to score, although their defence was excellent as they held Killester to a single basket.

In quarter three Killeen was straight out of the blocks with two quick baskets, Chelsea Imafidon was tremendous and the score was tied at 14-all at the end of the third quarter.

Switching up defences was paying off and Our Lady’s stuck to their task, scoring five unanswered points in the final quarter to complete a 19-14 victory.

The final game involved the Under-16 Cadette B Division 2 side, but they trailed 16-1 by the half-time whistle and despite competing much better in the second half were beaten 21-9.

The Under-19 Senior A side made their season debut in Division 1 at home to St Dominic’s Cabra, but nerves got the better of Our Lady’s at the start and basic errors saw them trail 8-0.

Emma White took over the point position and scored their opening basket, and with Lindsey Eriamietor and Caroline Kelly also scoring the hosts were only 9-6 down at the first-quarter break.

With Aoife Howard picking up some nice points, the hosts led 13-11 at the half-time interval and 21-19 going into the last quarter, but one of Dominic’s two ‘club’ players pulled out all the stops in the latter stages to carry her team to a 31-27 victory.
