All-Stars in need of overhaul

-

I watched the All Star awards ceremony on RTE TV on Friday night. Seven awards for Dublin, six for Mayo and two token awards, one each for Ulster and Munster.

It appears that the GAA season only starts at All Ireland semi-final stage for the purpose of these awards. The judging panel don’t appear to consider performances outside the concluding stages of the championship and seem more concerned with which players to include or exclude from the two finalists. The concept is becoming a little boring and is in serious need of an overhaul.

The curtain came down on the adult football season with O Connells bowing out of the Leinster Club Championship on Saturday at the Grove. The Castlebellingham outfit were beaten 2-7 to 0-12 by Meath champions Curraha. They were in control of proceedings at half time when they led by four points but lost their way a little after the break to lose out by the narrowest of margins.
