Cement hearing on Tuesday
A NUMBER of environment groups from the region are expected to attend the oral hearing on the proposed burning of up to 600,000 tons of alternative fuel at Irish Cement plant at Platin.
The hearing, called by An Bord Pleanala, takes place next Tuesday 21st November in City North Hotel, Gormanston.
‘We as a group along with other similar environment groups from surrounding areas, including Drogheda, Dundalk, Etc, all affiliated to the North East Association Environmental Groups will be challenging these plans, seeking to have them reduced, modified, and critically examined both from a scientific and medical point of view, and to have community safeguards and guarantees put in place prior to any planning / license application approval,’ a spokesman for the Duleek and District Environmental group stated.
They say it is time for local people to air their views on the proposals.
The fuels being used include tyres, meat and bone meal and other waste products.
The environment group says it is vital that as many people as possible turn out to hear the plans.
‘We need your help and support during the course of this hearing, This is one of the most important issues for our communities and its people for a long time. Remember, whatever decision comes out of this hearing, we will have to live with it for the foreseeable future,’ they state.

Irish Cement have said they are looking forward to the hearing where they can outline their plans to the community and explain in detail the processes involved.
