Garda crackdown on illegal parking around Drogheda
GARDAÍ in Drogheda are cracking down on incidents of illegal parking around town with a number of fines already issued, a spokesperson has confirmed.
He said gardaí have visited a number of sites where the problem is particularly rampant and have issued postal fines to those found to be parking illegally over the past week. ‘We have been pro-active and have issued tickets in known black spots, particularly at The Twenties where people have been blocking the footpath which has made life particularly difficult for one local resident who is a wheelchair user,’ said the spokesperson. He warned that many people who have been parking illegal may not yet know about the fines as they are issued through the post and gardaí do not put penalty notices on the car.
‘It may be a week or ten days later before these arrive in the post so if people continue to park illegally over the course of the week they could get a fine each day and receive four or five in the post the following week.’ He also revealed that if someone is found to be seriously blocking the footpath then that vehicle will be towed away.
The spokesperson said the gardaí will also be in contact with the council about redoing the double yellow lines in this area which are badly faded at present. He said other known parking blackspots will also be visited in the coming weeks.
