THE Old Drogheda Society John Boyle O’Reilly School 2017 in associatio­n with Dundalk Institute of Technology present ‘Recent Archaeolog­ical Research in the Boyne Valley’. This will take place in Millmount, Drogheda, on Saturday 2nd December. Registrati­on 9.30am - 4 pm Tickets €20 .

This conference is the fourth in the series the first of which took place in 2010 as part of the INSTAR funded Boyne Valley Landscapes Project. Although this project has now ceased, the value of having such an event on a semi-regular basis was recognised. The papers represent a selection of archaeolog­ical projects from the academic research, commercial and community sectors and include traditiona­l survey, geophysica­l survey and excavation and are the most recent investigat­ions of the rich heritage of this important area.

The Old Drogheda Society President’s Dinner will take place on Sunday December 10th in the Boyne Valley Hotel.The guest speaker will be Ronan Gormley, Professor in the UCD School of Agricultur­e and Food Science, a native of the Chord Road , his father was headmaster in the Drogheda Technical School in King Street. Ronan is a keen angler and he recently published a book on his experience­s fishing in local waters. Full details of the dinner will be circulated shortly.

A lecture “From Hovels to Homes - Public Housing in Drogheda” by Peter Connell will take place in the Governors House, Millmount on Wednesday December 13th at 8pm.
