Yet another accident at the Rathmullen Road junction

-

THERE was another bad accident at the notorious Rathmullen Road junction last week .

That just adds to the tally - unfortunately another statistic for Supt Andrew Watters for his quarterly report - of an RTA in the district.

This junction has so many things wrong with it that it defies belief.

Added to that, permission has been granted for another development close to St Dominick’s Park, so there will be even more vehicles using this location in the years ahead.

So the answer to all these issues seems to be just to leave it - and hope for the best.

I was chatting to a man who uses that area quite a lot, Paddy Feehan, and he makes a great point.

As you come down the Rathmullen Road and head up the incline to the junction, you lose sight of the road to the right for a second, except if the vehicle approaching is a truck or bus.

There is a dip away from the junction down towards the river.

Can some engineer not come up with a solution to this - apart from asking drivers to be careful.

Pictured above is the junction and a previous accident there. Notice the dip away from the junction, which is adding to the problems there.
