Hopes of local all-girls league boosted

-

ALBION Rovers and Walshestown played out a hugely entertaining Under-10 girls game on the Astroturf in Albion on Sunday morning.

Despite the sunshine the strong breeze meant that temperatures were low and it took the players a few minutes to get up and running.

With two games going on simultaneously, once both teams got into their stride there were goals aplenty shared out, much to the delight of the onlooking coaches, spectators and families.

The games were played out in a tremendous spirit and it was great to see players being rotated around positions, with everyone also taking turns in goals to ensure everyone got lots of touches on the ball and the chance to both score and save goals.

For some this was their first taste of taking part in soccer and meeting up with potential new friends, particularly on the Albion side. With the more experienced players encouraging their new teammates to take a full part in all games, everyone had a great time and it was all smiles and handshakes at the end.

With another blitz planned in Albion in two weeks’ time it is hoped that a local league for allgirls teams can be created when the new calendar year football season kicks off in 2018.
