ALBION ROVERS CARRICK ROVERS 3 5

ALBION Rovers’ Under-12 girls put on a great performance as they pushed one of this year’s National finalists Carrick Rovers all the way in a friendly clash played in Monasterboice at the weekend.

The hosts actually took the lead through Sophie Everitt after a great ball in behind from Maebh Eakin, but they went in 2-1 down at the break following a good response from a very strong and well-organised Carrick team.

Albion were slow to get going at the start of the second half and before they knew it they found themselves 5-1 down after conceding three more quick-fire goals.

However, they showed great strength and character to come back, and with renewed energy and vigour they pulled it back to 5-3 thanks to a brace of goals from Everitt to complete her hat-trick.

Apart from those already mentioned, there were great performances from newly elected captain Cliodhna Russell and vice captain Leah McElearney, while the workrate of Grace Stafford and Michaela Loughran was another feature of the game.

ALBION ROVERS: Leah McElearney, Michaela Loughran, Catherine Moore, Jessica Kells, Meabh Eakin, Cliodhna Russell, Heather Breen, Sophie Everitt, Saoirse McDermott, Grace Stafford.
