Albion ace is simply Devine

-

JAMES Devine scored all four goals for Albion Green but still didn’t get the vote for ‘player of the week’ as the Monasterboice side made it six wins from six in the Under-13 Division 1.

This team was only put together at the start of the season, but they’ve hit the ground running and prior to Saturday had already beaten Drogheda Marsh Crescent in slightly fortunate circumstances thanks to a last-minute winner.

Both teams enjoyed the bright sunshine and the slippery surface allowed for some quick passing. Albion midfielder Shayan Khan was quickly into his stride, winning ball in midfield and releasing quick passes, and it wasn’t long before the speedy Devine was released in behind the Drogheda defence for the first goal of the game, a good finish to the top corner.

and put together a decent spell of possession, but David Clarke controlled the area in front of the Albion back four and broke up play effectively, setting up numerous attacks with clever use of the ball.

Goal number two for Albion followed another passage of good play, with Sam Wynne showing great awareness to find Shayan and he once again split the defence to find Devine who applied the finishing touch.

Albion were now showing confidence but were then given a warning as a lovely passing move saw Drogheda Marsh get in on goal, only for the resulting shot to bounce agonisingly wide.

Albion replied almost immediately, with another fine pass again setting up Devine who kept his composure, rounding the keeper and tapping into an empty net for his hat-trick.

The second half was an even contest, but it was Albion who grabbed their fourth goal through Devine before Drogheda Marsh grabbed a consolation just Player of the week went to Clarke, although in truth any of the Albion lads could have won that accolade on the day.

Albion would like to say best of luck to Drogheda March Crescent and Richie Dooley for the rest of the season.
