JOE ROCHE

Navan Road Club send their condolence to the family and friends of the late Joe Roche, Broomfield Collon.

Joe was a former chairman of the club with a tremendous interest in cycling affairs over his life time. In his cycling days he was a prominent cyclist winning some prestige’s races, and took part in the Ras Tailteann on several occasions. He also served as an official with the race for a long number of years and helped to make this event one of the great sporting occasions in the country. He was also involved in the club’s Race around Ireland, considered one of the toughest events in the cycling world. Another milestone in his life was to map out and develop a cycle route from Dublin to Galway, with great detail and expertise.

Joe also supported the charity cycle events especially the annual Cycle 4 Cairde spin that takes place on St Stephen’s Day in Slane. Joe will be sadly missed by all his cycling colleagues around the country, he had always a good story to tell. He was always available at all events big or small. As a mark of respect Navan Road Club members formed a guard of honour at Joe’s funeral mass that took place in Grangegeeth Church. To his wife Maura, son Emmet, daughters Grainne, Niamh and Dervilia, our thoughts are with you. Ar Dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
