Slane works won’t start until April

-

CLLR Wayne Harding has called for Meath County Council and the ambulance services to look at alternative routes for emergency services between Navan and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospitals until a stop go system in Slane village is removed following an accident between an ambulance and a car recently at the temporary lights.

“The N51 is a very busy national road and these lights are in a dangerous place as you enter Slane village from Drogheda. The route between the hospitals is of life saving importance but it is important that safer options be explored as a temporary measure.

In reponse to the councillor, Meath County Council said it had been in contact with the ambulance service to discuss the current traffic management that has been installed on the N51 in Slane as a precautionary measure in the event of a sudden collapse of the retaining wall.

Cllr Harding also voiced complete dismay at the timescale of the project.

“Ground investigation will start later this month but the physical work is not expected to start until late April and works will take up to six months”.

In response to Cllr Harding’s questions the council did indicate that should the investigative work show the wall to bein a more stable condition than first feared it may be possible to remove the stop go as work continue.

Cllr Harding finished by saying he is awaiting further information on making the traffic management safer for those residents who live in between the stop go traffic lights and do not know who has the right of way when the come out onto the road from their house.
