Storytelling day at Frank’s old Donore cottage
AN afternoon of storytelling takes place at the Boyne Valley Cottage, Donore, on Sunday 19 November from 3-5pm, and will continue every third Sunday of the month over the winter.
Storytellers of all ages are welcome to share stories and perhaps a few songs, with participation at the heart of it. There is no pressure to perform – just turn up and listen! ‘Storytelling is an age-old tradition which has existed since the dawn of time wherever people gather,’ said Cllr Frank Godfrey.
‘Frank’s Boyne Valley Cottage is a place for reminiscing, where old traditions remain strong and we retain a sense of bygone days and nostalgia,’ said Frank. ‘I would love to see a good crowd here for the storytelling, especially on the first day. Admission is free and attendees can enjoy a cup of tea and a bun and relax in the cottage.’
Boyne Valley Cottage was built in the 17th century and is a landmark in Donore village, featuring many traditional aspects such as the half-door, the old tractor and hand-pump. Since the cottage was opened to the public in 1980, it has hosted fortune telling, storytelling, céilí house and traditional music, and has welcomed visitors from Drogheda and abroad.
