Michael back as chairman of Renua

-

MICHAEL O’Dowd (right) was reelected as National Chair of Renua at the Partys AGM in Tullamore at the weekend.

In accepting the position, O’Dowd called for a Border Poll in Northern Ireland to allow a generation of citizens to decide whether they wished to stay in the UK or remain in the EU through a United Ireland.

‘ Its almost 50 years since the last Border Poll and if we accept that a United Ireland is a legitimate political goal then we must provide a peaceful pathway for that to be achieved. Each generation should be given the opportunity to decide and we must all accept the outcome.

‘ This policy is consistent with Renua’s goals of a devolved approach to decision making.’

Michael also stated that Renua would seek mandatory training for Judges in the whole area of child sex abuse.

‘Recent sting operations at home and abroad show that young people are at serious risk. Those convicted should be given long sentences without mitigation from the Judges or remission from the authorities. ‘ O’Dowd also said in his speech that he looked forward to the day of the count of the Referendum when Ireland would be a beacon to the world by rejecting Abortion in this country and retaining the 8th Amendment.
