Meadowview manhole must be sorted out

-

Dear Sir,

ON Wednesday evening an absolutely shocking and disgraceful matter was brought to my attention.

A blown-up manhole along the footpath at Meadowview, Drogheda was seeping out large quantities of raw sewerage and toile paper, posing a most serious health hazard. It is running along the path at the entrance of the estate to Calvary Cemetery.

Parents bringing their children to the local primary school at Bryanstown and students at Scared Heart Secondary School ended up walking through the sewerage, not realising what was there.

When notified I immediately informed Irish water on Wednesday the 22nd November 2017 and again contacted them this morning.

With the extremely poor lightning here, many people walked through the sewerage before realising what it was. This is an ongoing problem over the past number of years, in which Irish Water and Louth County Council are fully aware of. In fact over the years, after representations from residents I requested the gullies to be cleared of all debris.

In my opinion there is obviously a major fault along the main sewerage line, which must be rectified once and for all, by Louth County Council/ Irish Water, to eliminate this re-occurring problem.

It is also essential that the area is cleaned up immediately, and manhole re-fitted properly.
