Golden girl Erinn leaves rest behind

-

DUNLEER AC athlete Erinn Leavy was crowned National Under-12 Cross-Country champion at Abbotstown on Sunday after a great run over the 2km course, holding off her rivals all the way to the finish.

This was Erinn’s second consecutive National title, having won at Under-11 level last year in Dundalk, she is the current Louth and Leinster champion and her coaches Fintan Reilly and Kevin Matthews are very proud of Erinn who trains hard, focuses on her event and gives everything to her sport. They feel she is a true champion for 2017 and a great role model for girls in the sporting world.

She was supported by some great teammates on Sunday in Lucy Sheridan, Vanessa and Danielle Brennan and Aibhe Reilly who all competed in what was a high-level competition.

The Dunleer AC boys had their own hero in James Russell who powered through the field in his 3km race to finish in 11th place, securing a top-12 individual medal place. James was ably supported by Patrick Farrell and Matthew Mc Entee, while James’ brother Ciarán had a great run in the Under-12 Boys race.

In the Boys Under-18 event Danny O’Brien again showed great poise and strength to finish as the first Under-18 Louth man home in a tough 6km race, with clubmate Diarmuid Mc Keown the first under-20 Louth man to finish.

Aoife Fay, the 2017 Louth senior champion, had a good run in the under-20 Junior Championship 5km race, just lacking a bit of pace in the middle section but having a great run in this top-level event nonetheless.

Garry Campbell, the reigning Louth senior champion, can also be very proud of his run in the Under-23 section of the 10km race as he achieved a top-six finish.
