TOM WISEMAN R.I.P.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of the late Tom Wiseman, Moorechurch, who passed away on Sunday morning, November 19th last.

Tom was brought to rest in St. Mary`s Church Julianstown on Wednesday evening last November 22nd and following Funeral Mass the following morning, his remains were interred in Moorechurch Cemetery. Tom was widely known throughout Julianstown, Stamullen and indeed far beyond. I had met with him many years ago and had the privilege of working alongside of him with Meath Co. Council.

He had an extraordinary knowledge of many, many things and his love of Irish Traditional airs and the history and heritage of Ireland had to be admired.

Regarding community/local history, Tom was to become an inspiration to me, his incredible knowledge of places, faces, periods, happenings and events, all rolled off his tongue as if he was reading from a book.

Another great love of his was poetry and in rememberence of Tom`s departure

I would like to conclude at this time with a verse from one of his own poems which he had penned back in the early 1980`s; the full poem of eight verses appearing in the book `A History of Julianstown` published in 1985. The title of the poem was `The Chapel Bell`.

`I was born and raised in Julianstown Among the decent people

And there we had a grand old church

But we never had a steeple

A bell we had and grand she was Through the years she served us well

It was grand to hear it chime so clear

Our grand old chapel bell.

God bless our Fr. Dunican

Our loved and holy pastor

Bless his new church and this old bell And bless the hands that cast her And now its time that I conclude

I have little more to tell Blessings on you one and all And the Julianstown chapel bell`.
