Mell kids do the town proud

December 1993

MELL Youth Club members did their home town proud recently when they made their stage debut at the Louth Youth Federation talent competition.

Despite being first timers, the group put on a marvellous show, according to leaders, but just failed to clinch a prize.

The group gave an entertaining performance in the recent Tops of the Talent variety show held in the Dundalk. Club leader Gerry Floyd said the Mell performances were second to none.

‘Despite problems with the sound system, the local group opened the show and managed to give an entertaining performance, Mr. Floyd said. Representing the club were compere, Wendy Campbell with comedy act ‘ The NiCa-Teens’ Cathy Kavanagh and Nicola Newman.

Lynn Maguire, Lisa Moran and Paula Smith tripped the light fantastic as the group’s dancers while Maiella Downey, Martina Griffin, Susan Kelly and Rachel Moran all took part in a sketch on health cuts.

The club would like to thank Tuites Butchers, John McGovern, Moran and Smith and the Droichead Arts Centre for their help.
