Society to benefit from Glen night

-

THE great country singer Glen Campbell passed away earlier this year after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

So there is a certain symmetry to the next fund-raising concert for the Drogheda Alzheimer Society on Sunday, December 10.

For it will feature all the major hits and much more from the Glen Campbell songbook. One of Ireland’s leading exponents of Campbell’s songs, Roy Taylor, with his band The Rhinestones, will provide the music.

The event takes place at 8pm on December 10, at the Barbican, with tickets priced at €20.

It is aimed at raising funds for the Alzheimer branch’s efforts to provide a new day care centre for the town and district.

Glen Campbell made such songs as Rhinestone Cowboy, Wichita Lineman, Galveston and By the Time I Get to Phoenix famous.

But his Alzheimer condition had deteriorated gradually to the extent that he could not even remember the words of his famous songs in recent years.

Roy Taylor will bring all these legendary numbers to the Drogheda audience in what promises to be a memorable occasion.

It should be a great night of music and nostalgia not only for country fans but for lovers of good music.
