ROAD CLOSED

The Slane to Drogheda road (N51) is presently closed and will remain closed until Saturday, December 2nd. The extent of the closure will be for 200m eastwards on the N51 from the Credit Union in Slane village. The closure is required to facilitate emergency ground investigat­ion works at the N51, Slane retaining wall.

The following is the proposed diversion route - From junction 10 of the M1 motorway (Drogheda North), proceed north west along the R168 for approximat­ely 10km to Collon, via Tullyallen and Nursery Cross. At junction with N2 take left turn and proceed south to Slane for approximat­ely 10km; From the N51 junction with the N2 in Slane Village, proceed north for approximat­ely 10km to Collon. Take a right turn onto the R168 and travel south east for approximat­ely 10km to junction 10 of the M1 motorway.

There will be no through traffic across on the closed section of the N51 during this period, however local access will be maintained at all times.

ENCHANTED KINGDOM

BOOKINGS are presently being taken for the Enchanted Kingdom at Slane Castle but places are filling up quickly with limited tickets available for the first weekend of December as well as December 8th, 15th and 22nd. Father Christmas, Mrs Claus & head elf, Elf Jingle along with a host of others will once again be staying in The Enchanted Kingdom at Slane Castle this Christmas Season 2017. Families will venture through The Enchanted Kingdom amongst a host of festive scenes before meeting the main man himself Santa Claus. Children: €22 per child plus booking fee; Adults: €15 per adult plus booking fee.

SLANE DISTILLERY

SLANE DISTILLERY invites everyone to their very first Christmas tree lighting ceremony this Thursday, November 30th from 6.30 - 8pm. Get into the festive spirit and enjoy a Christmas carol performanc­e by Navan Community Singers as the distillery turns on their Christmas tree lights in the magical surroundin­gs of their 18th century courtyard. Tours of the distillery will be available for purchase along with hot Slane Irish Whiskey in their beautiful stalls bar. The gift shop will also be open with special discounts available.

SPINNERS AGM

SLANE Spinners Cycling Club hold their agm in the Youth Cafe, Slane, this Thursday, November 30th at 8.30pm. All members and intending members are asked to attend.

ART EXHIBITION

HANNAH BLAKE will host an art exhibition at the College Hill Art Studio, Slane, with opening evening on Thursday, December 7th from 7 - 9pm. The exhibition continues until December 14th, 10am - 4pm each day. There will also be entries from Eileen O’Grady and Charlotte Reid. To view out of hours call 0857055229.

CRAFT FAIR

THE annual Christmas Craft Fair takes place in Teach Raithneach, Collon, on Sunday, December 3rd, from 11am to 5pm. Lots of stalls selling Crafts, Christmas gifts, jewellery, flowers, home baking, cards and lots more. Everyone welcome, your support is very much appreciate­d.

MONSTER BINGO

A MONSTER bingo takes place in Rathkenny Community Centre on Wednesday, December 6th, starting at 8.30pm. Top money prizes and subscripti­on is €10. Proceeds in aid of parochial funds.

FESTIVE RECITAL

ST Patrick’s Classical School presents a night of music, song and drama in Tankardsto­wn House on Wednesday, December 13th. Reception is at 7pm and recital starts at 7.30pm. Tickets €10, family of five @40. Tickets available from St Patrick’s CS and Tankardsto­wn House.

SYMPATHY

SLANE cycling group have expressed their sympathy with the Roche and Colfer families on their recent bereavemen­ts.

ROLLER CYCLE

CYCLIST from the Slane area are invited to come along and support the annual 24 hour roller cycle event on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd December, at Foleys Arch in Watergate Street Navan. Once again proceeds from this event will go to the ARC Cancer Support Centre. ARC offers numerous services like therapy support and counsellin­g to people with cancer, their families and relations regardless of where they live. COMMUNITY CENTRE

TICKETS are presently on sale for a major fundraiser for a new community centre in the village. The draw has a prize fund of approx €70,000, including cars, holidays and cash prizes. An Early Bird Draw takes place on December 22nd and all fully paid tickets returned by that date will go into an extra draw for €500. There will also be a sellers draw for €500.

The new centre will be built on a site adjacent to the local national school and planning permission has already been obtained from Meath County Council. The fundraisin­g committee are hopeful of selling 2,000 tickets at €100 each. First prize is a Toyota Corolla or €20,000, second is a Toyota Yaris or €15,000 and third is a Toyota Aygo or €10,000. Other prizes include €5,000 in cash, €3,000 holiday voucher, Topaz fuel voucher for €2,500, trip for two to the Cheltenham Festival, 2,000 litres of home heating oil and four separate prizes of €1,000.
