MORE AIR MONITORS MEAN BETTER HEALTH

A recent survey by the European environment agency has revealed that there are more than fifteen hundred deaths every year from air pollution. Hopefully, the E.P.A will increase the number of air monitors in the north-east region instead of relying on one air monitor in Navan. Yes, Navan?

ELIZABETH THE FIRST (MAIDEN QUEEN)

Elizabeth the first was Queen of England and Ireland from 1533 to 1603. She never married hence she became known as the maiden queen. The maiden

tower in Mornington was built during her reign and the tower was called the maiden tower. There is also a legend attached to the maiden tower. The legend is that there was a beautiful lady. Her beau went to the wars. Both of them agreed that every day she would climb to the top of the tower to check for the return of her lover’s ship.

They also agreed that her lover would raise a white flag if he had survived the wars and if the flag was black he would not be returning. On the day of the ship’s arrival, a black flag was raised. She was so overcome with grief that she jumped to her death. Her beau was safe and sound and he just put the black flag up for the crack.

According to Jim Garry’s streets and lanes of Drogheda 2009 and updated by Deidre Howard Russell, the story has no historical support whatsoever, and as the saying goes it can be taken with a grain of salt.
