200 take the plunge!

- By HUBERT MURPHY

THEY came, they saw, they conquered - and smartly dashed from the freezing Irish Sea!

The annual Polar Plunge at Clogherhead on Saturday was another huge success for the Special Olympics charity that reaps the reward for the once a year chilly nip.

While many came dressed for the occasion, one lady certainly stood out, Drogheda Coastguard volunteer, Sue McKinney.

She adopted attire more akin to a flapper from the Roaring Twenties, and was certainly the best dressed of the 200 stromg crowd.

‘I came as Baywatch a few years ago but decided to wear this this time. It’s a great cause and I’ve been here a few times’, she added.

The day was a roaring success, the magnificent Mornington Gospel Choir providing a wonderful backdrop with countless seasonal numbers - and featuring a rockin’ organ player!

In terms of dippers, they were all there, gardai, army, local students, emergency service workers and the odd politician thrown in - including Mayor Pio Smith and Cllr Kevin Callan.
