McKeever follows in footsteps of O’Rourke

FOR the second year in a row senior champions Simonstown have been honoured with the Meath Footballer of the Year award.

The Simonstown captain Padraig McKeever will received this year’s accolade, following in the footsteps of his teammate Shane O’Rourke who won the award 12 months ago.

And there is double celebratio­n for the north Navan club as they have also being picked as Club of the Year, in recognitio­n for winning back-to-back Keegan Cup titles.

The Young Footballer of the Year is under-17 Meath star Jordan Morris from Nobber.

James Kelly, who helped Kiltale to a four-in-a-row of Meath SHC titles, is named Hurler of the Year. Kelly was also named Man of the Match in the recent SHC final. Mickey Mullen (Killyon) is Young Hurler of the Year.

The Grounds of the Year award has gone to Kilmainham, while Moynalvey won the Public Relations Club Award.

Referee of the Year is Bernard Heaney (Clann na nGael), while Most Improved Referee is Hugo Whoriskey (St Patrick’s).

All of the awards, as well as that of Hall of Fame, will be presented at a function in the Castle Arch Hotel, Trim, this Friday evening.
