THE original Rhinestone Cowboy will be fondly remembered through his legendary songs at the Barbican in Drogheda on Sunday night (Dec 10).

The songs of Glen Campbell will be featured in a special tribute concert starring Roy Taylor.

The event is being organised to help the fund-raising efforts by the local branch of the Alzheimer Society in its quest to provide a new daycare centre for the town.

Roy Taylor, who has represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in years gone by, has been a familiar figure in the national scene for several decades. He is renowned as one of Ireland’s leading exponents of Campbell’s songs, performing with his band, appropriately named The Rhinestones.

The event takes place at 8pm at the Barbican, with tickets priced at €20.

Glen Campbell died earlier this year after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Roy himself offered to come to Drogheda to present the concert for the local Alzheimer Society branch.

Branch chairman, Noel Heeney, said they very much appreciated the gesture from Roy.
