Minister visit to Red Door

- By FIONA MAGENNIS

MINISTER Catherine Byrne TD paid a visit to the Red Door Project in Drogheda to see for herself the vital role it is playing in the town’s anti-drug strategy. The Minister was invited to visit the service by local TD Fergus O’Dowd.

MINISTER Byrne, who is responsible for the National Drugs Strategy and Health Promotion, managed to make the end of the fantastic Christmas Market the Red Door Project was hosting. The Christmas market was full of festive items for sale hand-made by the members on their CE Scheme.

O’DOWD said: ‘I wanted to bring my colleague Minister Byrne to Drogheda to highlight the role the Red Door plays in helping some of the most vulnerable people in our town and to discuss the ways we as a government can help. We held a very frank and positive meeting with the Minister and the Red Door representatives following the tour of the Christmas market. The Minister made a commitment to return early in the new year for further discussions. I would like to thank the Manager Louise Mahony and Mayor Pio Smith, the staff and the volunteers for the continued service they provide in our town and for organising such a wonderful event.’
