Two women urged by judge to ‘sort it out’

-

TWO women, one of whom was accused of assaulting the other, were encouraged to shake hands and ‘sort it out’, when they appeared at Drogheda court.

Iwona Kossowska (31), 113 Knockbrack Downs, Drogheda, denied an assault charge which was alleged to have occurred in the hallway of her house on 4 February, 2017.

Solicitor Paddy Goodwin said his client was defending herself.

Inspector John O’Flaherty added it will be alleged by the other woman, who suffered some injuries, that she was outside, and Ms Kossowska tried to pull her in.

No direct evidence was heard in the case. Rather, Judge Coughlan read statements which were handed up to him.

Afterwards, he asked was it not possible for the two ladies to have a chat, to see if they could sort it out.

‘ They have no previous convictions. This seems a misunderstanding to me. They are two good people,’ the judge continued.

He suggested a sum of money could be paid by the accused, which should reflect that neither of them was ‘earning big money’.

After a short adjournment, Mr. Goodwin suggested the case could be put back to 6 April, 2018, when ‘ hopefully it can be struck out.’

The solicitor added ‘a certain arrangement’ had been made.

Judge Coughlan adjourned the matter as requested.
