New Scarlet Street development to start in early 2018
THE new housing development on the site of the Old Fire Station on Scarlet Street will start early next year.
Chief Executive Officer Aoife Lawler told councillors at the December meeting of Drogheda Municipal District said the Scarlet Street project has got approval and should be onsite in the first quarter of 2018. She said the project at Boice Court is currently at Stage 2. Ms Lawler was responding to comments from Councillor Oliver Tully who said he was ‘disappointed’ that a number of projects which had been due to start this year did not go ahead. ‘We were led to believe these would be up and running and ready for next year. Houses like the development on Scarlet Street etc, is the delay coming from the housing body or what is happening?’ MS Lawler said there were a ‘ lot of hoops’ to get through before a project gets to site but said the Department had called a meeting recently to put measures in place in order to shorten the length of time between a feasibility plan being submitted and the turning of the first sod onsite.
