DAR text appeal to cover Hope’s large medical bills

-

DROGHEDA Animal Rescue (DAR) came to the aid of little Shih Tzu Hope when she was found in a shockingly neglected state in Dominic’s Park on October 31st.

The tiny little dog was found with a litany of health problems including badly matted hair, hair missing from her body and was extremely underweight with a badly infected eye, horrible teeth, an abdominal hernia and fur and faeces stuck in her mouth.

According to DAR, everyone who saw this little dog was shocked by her dishevelled state caused by chronic, long term neglect.

‘It was quite fortunate that she ran up to someone who happened to be in the park on that day, and jumped up on the finder, as if asking for help, and help she did receive!’ said a spokesperson for DAR.

The dog, who has been named Hope because of all she has had to endure, is now in foster care with a loving family who have treated her with respect, love and kindness. She was also given a little makeover by local dog groomer Just Pawfect by Sam.

However, the treatment needed for Hope to rectify all the damage caused as a result of her long term neglect has come at a cost to DAR and her current veterinarian bill stands at approximately €600. This is on top of all the other care DAR provide for the many animals in their care.

‘We knew her care wouldn’t be cheap, but we couldn’t turn our back on this little dog, crying out for help. It was painful just to look at her.’

Hope has since had her badly infected eye removed, bad teeth removed, and the remaining ones cleaned, and her hernia repaired.

She has also been on a course of antibiotics and steroids for her skin, as she was suffering from a chronic flea allergy. She’s been fully vaccinated, and microchipped as well.

DAR are now appealing to the public for help to cover this unforeseen cost. You can donate by texting DAR to 50300 to donate €2 or TNR to 50300 to donate €4.

You can also donate via Paypal to admin@dar.ie or via our everydayhero page.

Or post a cheque or postal order to Drogheda Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 159, Drogheda, County Louth.
