-

THE rotary Club of Drogheda’s annual remembrance has been a regular sight in Drogheda over the past 10 years since 2007,and this year is set to run over six days

,from Monday 18 th December to Sunday 24th December 2017..

The Remembrance Tree will be operating from three locations; the spectacular Christmas Tree outside St. Peter’s Church on West St., Tesco Extra on the Donore Road and in the Laurence Town Centre outside M&S.

According to The First Lady President of Drogheda Rotary Club Gail McEvoy “The idea behind the remembrance tree is that people can remember loved ones who are no longer with us or those family members who are abroad ”.

“The person can give a donation of any amount they choose and these donations will go towards local charitable services in our town; Rotary’s Meals on Wheels Service, Malta Services,Drogheda Special Olympics andThe Soroptimist Club collecting on behalf of The Boomeranng Cafe.

From 2007, the idea has seen €115,000 distributed to localcharities from the collections.

The Rotary Club of Drogheda established in 1946 meet every Monday in The Westcourt Hotel and are always looking for new members.

Anyone interested in finding out more about Drogheda Rotary Club or who are interested in becoming a member or would simply like to volunteer, should contact Philip Richardson at Philip@richardson. ie or call 0872551719. The Club members meet over lunch to discuss various charitable and fundraising initiatives and other Rotary business.

“One of the biggest Rotary projects is Meals on Wheels , which has operated in Drogheda for the last 47 years.

‘Hot nutritious meals and tasty desserts are delivered three times a week to the elderly and incapacitated in our local communities. In terms of Community involvement , the introduction of our Meals on Wheels service and our ability to sustain it over the period remains the Drogheda Rotary club’s greatest and proudest achievement. In that period we have touched the hearts and minds of many less fortunate people in our midst.’

We now have the capacity to take on new members and are looking to recruit new drivers to help with deliveries of meals. For further information on Drogheda Rotary Club go to http://www.droghedarotary. .
