Premier scalp for Matthews in Grimes Cup

-

DIVISION 1 title contenders Matthews piled more misery on Boyne Rovers as the Fosters Duleek & District League’s Tom Grimes Cup competition got under way on Friday night last.

Rovers have yet to register a point in the top flight this season and are now out of this knockout competition after Matthews proved strongest in their first-round tie.

The one remaining match at this stage takes place this Friday and features the Premier Division’s current top two as Sally Inn play host to Greyhound.

The draw has already taken place for the quarter-finals, which take place in February, and the only all-Premier tie sees Carranstown A play host to Lantern Bar. It’s Carranstown B v Matthews and Thatch A v Cottage Inn, while the winners of the Sally v Greyhound tie are away to Morning Star.

Meanwhile, there was a full round of games in Division 3 last Friday and just two points now cover the top five teams, led by Railway Bar and Admirals who were both comfortable winners in their last league matches before the Christmas break.
