It’s going to be like the Late Late Show there will be something for everybody. There will also be Nearest the Pin at the 4 Par 3 and Longest Drive at the 2 Par 5.
20 years on, the dreams of local farmer Pat Smyth and his wife Margaret have been fulfilled as their diversification into golf has now seen their course Cloverhill grow from strength to strength to become the foremost of golfing experiences.
Originally the clubhouse and course opened as a 9-hole in 1999 under the back drop of the towering Slieve Gullion, located in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty within the Ring of Gullion. Cloverhill is located 8 miles from Dundalk and 10 miles from Newry, in Mullaghbawn, South Armagh and when it comes to golf is a “hidden gem” which enjoys unspoiled views of one of the most panoramic scenes on any course in Ireland.
Some 12 years ago Pat and Margaret leased out the course and under the stewardship of keen 2 handicap golfer Colin, the course continued to thrive and improve, amid substantial investment, time and effort.
A par 70 Cloverhill is made up of some open and straightforward parkland holes which are intermingled with our own “Amen Corner” (holes 8-12) that stretches around the mountain and across the lake.
‘Anyone who is more serious about their golf, will want to play holes 8 to 12 a few times’ Hooked: Ireland’s Golf Courses.
The backup to your round of golf is equally impressive, as Cloverhill is renowned for it’s hospitality and Craic in a very cosy clubhouse, where food and drinks are available.
Open all year round Cloverhill is very reasonably priced with

The five handicapper opened with two pars for two points each before another par at the third yielded three points while a birdie at the fourth was worth four points and brought him to 11pts. He picked up one more three point par at the seventh on his way to turning for home on 22pts.
Walsh kicked for home in style and over the final five holes he notched up three three point birdies at the 10th, 12th and 14th and a three point par at the 12th. His only blemish was a one point bogey at the par three 13th.
That left him on 35pts, a total nobody else managed to match with Coburn (8) taking second on countback from Michael McDermott (17) after shooting 22pts over his final nine holes.
