Duleek Girls NS hitting musical high notes!
DULEEK Girls National School has received national recognition for their music programme after being selected as one of eight primary schools nationally for next year’s Primary Ensemble Project.
The school has produced many fine young musicians in the past few years and now the girls will perform in the National Concert Hall, Dublin.
The Primary Ensemble Project is aimed at developing key areas of early ensemble playing in a vibrant and holistic programme, Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) specialist tutors will visit the school in 2017 & 2018 to lead a series of three engaging and participative workshops.
During these workshops, the tutors will help the schools’ young musicians to develop aural and technical skills alongside ensemble performance and improvisation techniques.
Following these workshops, on 16 April, the ensembles will meet in the NCH and play with the other participating schools in a collaborative Performance Day.
Family and friends can come along to hear the Duleek ensemble on Ireland’s most prestigious stage, in what promises to be a performance not to be missed!
So, it is down to hard practice for the 57 members in preparation for their performance .
The school will have a visit from a string ensemble in February from Carlow. The 35 members of Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál will team up with DGNS for the collaborative piece.
It is hoped that the RIAM Orchestra will also visit the school later in 2018 as part of the programme.
