Opening of Thee Place at the Rossnaree

-

December 1987

YOURS truly was among the hundreds who gathered in the new nightclub in the Rossnaree. Thee Place, for the official opening last week. And an absolutely marvellous time was had by all. There is no doubt that the new owner, Vincent McDonnell, has succeeded in giving the nightclub a new lease of life.

The place has been completely refurbished and the £4 admission charge entitles patrons to a beautiful meal as well which is better than the grub you would get anywhere. The music is also second to none and what I like is that there is plenty of space to move around. It is definitely one of the biggest nightclubs in the area.

Spotted at the official opening were Willi Widmar and Ray Fitzsimons of the Boyne Valley Hotel, who were said to be impressed at their opposition. Also there was internationally acclaimed hypnotist, Barry Sinclair and local DJ Bob Hughes.

Vincent has lots happening in the nightclub over the coming week. Tickets are currently on sale at for their New Year’s Eve bash which includes a giant disco and laser show. It goes on until 3 a.m. and a steak supper will be served.

New Year’s night also promises to be a great night in Thee Place. Highlights include Ricky and Phil, who will be appearing live from 10-11.45, which will be followed by a disco until 2am.

Students are not being left out either. Vincent is throwing a back to school students disco on Tuesday, January 3, which will be strictly non-alcoholic. Dancing is from 8-12 and admission is £2.

There will also be a free bus running from Drogheda.
