COMHGHAIRDHEAS SLANE
Congratulations and well done to Slane Tidy Towns who were the winners of the main competition in the population 1,000 - 2,000 category, in the IPB Pride of Place Awards 2017, which were held in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny on Saturday Decemeber 2nd last. The Judges were fulsome in their praise for the Slane entry, and particularly noted that project were undertaken mainly by voluntary effort, and to a very high standard. Well done to all involved, you have rightly reaped your due rewards. Greater things to come no doubt. Go n-eiri an bothar libh!
COMMUNITY ALERT
It’s that time of year again, short daylight hours and long dark evenings and nights. Please call on elderly relatives and neighbours, especially those living alone. See that they have all their needs, food, heat, light and fuel for fires and anything else that they may need. It is often difficult for the elderly to get out and about to get shopping at this time of year, you may be able to help out in this regard. Also, please make sure that all Personal Socially Monitored Alarms are working as required. You can check out their operation by pressing the pendant button, when you should get a response from personnel in the Monitoring Station within seconds. It’s also time to make sure that Security Lighting is working correctly. Please make Community Alert a priority in the months ahead and beyond.
Please keep an eye out for sheep near you, and in particular, dogs roaming loose unsupervised. The damage to sheep may only become apparent when the lambing season comes around, by then it is too late. This is a Community Alert issue that should be taken seriously by all Members of Our Rural Community.
