ADAM WINS BRONZE

Adam Farrell took home Bronze from his second trip away to Lithuania.

Adam had two hard tough fights to qualify for a medal. He boxed for Silver on the Friday but the travelling took a lot out of him; he was boxing out of his skin but lost out on a split decision. It could have gone either way but the home boxed got the nod. Well done Adam, lots more to come from him no doubt. We are all very proud of you.

MR. PADDY WARD

The sun shone into the Church of Mary Immaculate on Wednesday 29th November as Paddy Ward laid to rest in front of the altar. It was as if Collon’s oldest man, in his 103rd year, was smiling down on everyone.

Paddy was born in Castlepollard but lived a lot of his early life near Mornington.

He worked in Woodingtons Boot factory from 1935 till 1966 when he then moved to Donaghys shoe factory until it closed in 1985.

He was a very intelligent man and could turn his hand to anything. He was a gentleman and always had that lovely twinkle in his eye. He always loved the chat and banter with everyone. He was a great supporter of Mattock Rangers and the Club formed a Guard of Honour at his funeral.

Paddy married May Fleming and they lived together in their beautiful home in the centre of the village since 1951. The huge crowd that attended his wake, removal to Church and Funeral showed the huge respect Paddy and his family hold in the community.

At his funeral, his son Michael spoke fondly of his Dad recalling many stories including how Paddy spent his first night in hospital at 101! Also, how he stopped driving at 99 and got his first speeding fine at 96!

Paddy is survived by his wife May (in her 100th year), son Michael (San Diego) Daughters Marian (Portarlington) and Patricia (Drogheda), sister Nellie, daughter in law Cathy, son in law Jim, grandchildren Andrew, Sean, Aisling and Paddy Og and great grandchild Liam and extended family members and friends.

Sincere sympathy is sent to all. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
