THE 23rd Old Drogheda Society Journal, was launched on Saturday morning last,in the Drogheda Tourist Office Tholsel, by Liam Reilly,

The 134 page journal is a must for those interested in Drogheda’s heritage,

It features a number of great articles, from John McCullen on Drogheda’s 11th Annual Show to Maura Mullen’s article “The Turning of the Tide; Ireland in 1898” looking at events which were to make the 1916 Rising inevitable.

Brendan Matthews has two interestin­g articles, one recalls the late Philip Joseph Cahill,the teacher in Stamullen National School and one an appreciati­on of the recently retired Margaret Clinton. Nick Reilly’s also has an article - “Ancient Munificenc­e- The Charities of the Corporatio­n of Drogheda, The Poor of St John and St Stephen”

Emmett Doran, looks at the various Old Drogheda Society publicatio­ns still available

Journals are for sale from Drogheda Museum Millmount, Waterstone­s, Scotch Hall or from Drogheda Tourist Office in the Tholsel.
