A WESTCOURT home has finished second in the race for Ireland’s Most Christmassy Home 2017.

The competition is run by Energia and since it officially started on Friday, December 1st, entries were received from across Ireland.

From all the entries, Energia had chosen the Top 20 based on decoration design, use of space, festive spirit and wow factor.

This year’s fantastic prizes are donations of €3,000, €2,000 and €1,000 respectively to the charity of choice of the first, second and third placed houses following the public vote.

This year, two local houses were included in the final top 20.

Mick and Rita Giblin’s house in Westcourt was pipped to the post, taking second place in the competition.

The pair will donate the money raised to Palliative Care in Drogheda.

East Meath Councillor Sharon Tolan and her husband Ivan Tolan’s home in Bettystown, meanwhile, were also been shortlisted in the competition.

They received over 1,000 likes on the Facebook page and more that one hundred good luck wishes.

Their chosen charity is the local cancer research organisation NECRET.

According to Energia there are a number of top Christmas lighting trends emerging in the finalist houses, including Santa v Snowmen, classic Christmas characters battling it out for the title of most popular outdoor decoration in Ireland. They also revealed that bling is back and the good times are definitely here again for outdoor Christmas lights displays.

Amy O’Shaughnessy, Marketing Acquisitions and Sponsorship Manager, Energia commented: ‘We’ve been really impressed with the standard of the entries into this year’s competition and it was tough choosing our Top 20.’
